Q: My 2004 Honda civic ex has the word "code" on the factory radio, what does this mean?
The battery went dead on my 2004 civic ex and i had it jumped. Then after it was jumped and started the factory radio wouldn't work. It has the word "code" on it. What happened and/or what does this mean? Because the radio won't play anything.

A: the radio is locked in anti-theft mode and requires a code to reactivate it. on a honda when the radio loses power the logic is that the reason it lost power is someone removed the radio (as in a theft). to make the radio inoperative to the theif the radio is locked into an anti-theft mode and can't be actiated unless you have the right code. the code is specific to each radio; there is no universal code. there are a few ways to find the code. 1) look in the paperwork that came with the car. there should be a white credit card with the anti-theft code on it. 2) if that's not to be found, look inside the glove box for a white sticker that would be placed on the walls of the glove box. it may have 5 numbers on it or a string of 9-10 letters and numbers. or two rows with the 5 numbers above the 9-10 letters and numbers. If you find the 5 numbers on the sticker, that is your radio reactivation code and you can enter that to reactivate the radio. 3) if you find the 9-10 letters and numbers sticker, that is the serial number for your radio. if you call a honda dealer and give them the serial number they can get the code for you 4) if you can't find the sticker in the glove box, look behind the ash tray (if there is one in that car) or look under the trunk lid as some dealers put the stickers there instead of in the glove box. 5) if you can't find the stickers, then try to retrieve the radio serial number by following this procedure. with the key in the ignition and turned to the ON position but with the radio OFF, press in and hold in the station preset buttons number 1 & 6 with your right hand. Then, while holding the buttons in, turn the radio on with your left hand. You should see a string of 5 digits starting with the letter "U". it will stay on for about 10 seconds and switch to a second string starting with the letter "L". if you get this, then write them down in that order. The string will repeat 3X. When you have the numbers written UxxxLxxx, call your honda dealer and give them those numbers--they are the serial number for the radio and the honda dealer can get the code from that string. if you can't find the stickers or retrieve the serial number then you'll have to remove the radio to get the serial number off of the back of the radio. The radio codes are individual to the radio and not to the car and there is not other way to do it at that point. hope that helps

Q: How do I get a manual for 2004 Honda Civic Ex without having to pay for it? Can't I find a pdf?
I took my daughter's Honda Civic Ex to the beach this weekend and someone tried to steal it but was unsuccessful! Now I can't get the key out of the ignition and don't know what to do! I'm assuming this is part of her anti-theft system but she's in Korea in the service and she doesn't have the manual! I know theres a way of not having to spend money by taking it to the dealership! Any ideas?

A: Sounds like it might be a Key Interlock System issue. It's a safety feature, i think its standard on the 04 Civic as well (i know its on the older ones) whereby you cant remove the key unless its in park. If its not in Park there's a specific solenoid which locks the key in position so it can't be removed. It's not an anti-theft feature, its a safety feature so that you don't leave the car in Drive/Neutral/Reverse and just turn the car off take out the key and walk away risking the car moving. Seem's like whoever tried to steal it has broken that solenoid or at least locked it in place. If the cars in park and the key won't come out - you'll have to get it taken somewhere to have it removed. There was a guy who lived next door to me who had his Accord almost stolen as well, the key locked in and he had to replace a solenoid and get a bunch of new parts for the ignition system, as well as a security system re-flash or something, cost him like $600 at the dealer. Unfortunately situations like this always leave you with the bill, but i guess you can just be happy the car wasn't actually stolen. Call the dealer and see what they say over the phone, it might be easy to do it yourself, or you might have to take it in. Ignition system locks are very complicated to mess with. Also, have you tried contacting her insurance? Insurance might be able to help cover the damage if you reported it and you do have to do some expensive repairs.

Q: Can a 7" car dvd player fit in a 2004 honda civic ex 2dr?
im trying to find out the dimensions of my 2004 honda civic ex radio. i dont want to buy a radio that wont fit in there.. i have the dimensions of the dvd player just not the stock radio. can anyone help me out? thanks

A: it will fit check crutchfield.com for exact models that will fit your car, it has been done before. I know for sure that a flip out will fit but it maybe tricky with a stationary because its a double din unit and the flip out is single din. so it will really depend on what you want and if your factory stereo was a single or double din stereo. but in this day in age if you can imagine it,and are willing to spend the money, anything is possible

Q: why is my 2004 honda civic EX misfiring?
I changed the spark plugs and gaped them and its still misfiring. just so you know the honda civic doesn't have cap or rotor and it doesn't have wires either. so what could be causing the problem? it was the coil pack! changed it and it works!

A: The most common problem will be either a bad injector or a vacuum leak.......

Q: How much does it cost to replace a seat belt in a 2004 honda civic ex coupe?
My dog chewed through the driver's side seat belt, and in my state you have to have your seat-belt on, so I must replace it (although, I would anyways) I am wondering how much it is going to cost me if I go to the honda dealership? How much will the labor cost be?

A: About $60 for labor.

Q: 2004 Honda Civic Ex coupe Question important?
Hey I am getting an 04 ex coupe civic I am 16 (male) and I was just wondering if anyone could give me an idea on what the insurance would be? I'll take any kind of number I just wanna get an idea at what it could be. Please anyone let me know as soon as possible. Thanks.

A: For a first time driver then its going to be about $700-$900 for liability or about $2000 plus for full coverage. This is off of what I pay with Progressive. It is based off a six month coverage and the car you have does not factor very much in what you pay. It more about how long you have been driving and if you have a clean driving record.

Q: 2004 Honda Civic EX Check engine light?
I have a 2004 Honda Civic EX and my check engine light has been on for a longtime. .I took it to a local mechanic and to the dealer they couldnt do resolve the issue. I changed the O2 censsor, checked the gas cap did everything I could have but couldnt figure out. I can not get it inspected just because of the light. is there any way I can get rid of the light. Please help me out.

A: what was the last thing you did before the light came on? Does it flash before its stays on or is it on right when you turn on the car? Does your car stutter or not have as much power or any thing else run wrong with it? You can try disconeting your negative terminal from your cars battery for like 10 to 15 min. After that plug it back in and turn on your car, see if it resets your engine light. A diagnostic from any mechanic should help pinpoint what error the computer is getting. If your O2 sensor is fine, try changing your oil and oil filter, swap out your intake air filter. More or less do a simple tune up on your car.

Q: How much does it cost to replace an alternator in a 2004 Honda Civic EX?

A: Call around for free estimates if you are sure this is the problem. Could be about $600 depending on shop rates in your area.

Q: What's a good sounding exhaust or muffler for a 2004 Honda Civic EX?
Catback? Muffler? or should i just have the Catalytic Converter taken off? Racing muffler or exhaust preferably. Something loud, but not too loud. Sounds like a mad bumble bee or something. And where can i hear a sound clip of it?

A: If you're just concerned about sound, then you will only need to get a different muffler welded on. If you want the performance you'll have to spend 3 times more and get a cat back exhaust (an exhaust that replaces the entire exhaust from the catalytic converter back). But from the sounds of it, you won't need all of that so what I recommend is an APEXi muffler or a full catback APEXi exhaust. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrMphYHbO_0 above is a clip of an APEXi muffler on a 2000 civic, but I've personally heard it on a newer 2001-2005 civics and it sounds incredible as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/APEXi-N1-Universal-NA-Muffler-60mm-Inlet_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247QQcategoryZ33630QQihZ023QQitemZ360035533024QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V above is a link to a universal APEXi N1 Muffler that can be welded on at your local muffler shop. The alternative cat-back exhaust below is custom fitted and tuned for your car so that you or your local repair shop can simply bolt it on. http://www.performancecenter.com/exhaust-systems/apexi-n1-muffler-exaust-system above is a link to an APEXi N1 Cat-Back Exhaust System So, in conclusion, around 200 for just the muffler plus the cost to have it welded or around 500 for the entire cat-back system that you can bolt-on yourself. Either one will sound incredible. Hope this helps.

Hi i have a 2004 Honda civic and i want to take out the stock headlights and put on some blue headlights, i have done some research but i was wondering which watt and what company would be best for my vehicle, also is this illegal in illinois?

A: You'll need a 9005 bulb for the high beams and 9006 for the low beams. I'm pretty sure that any colored bulbs are illegal in Illinois.

Q: 2004 honda civic ex top speed?
I have a 2004 Honda Civic Ex. 1.7L engine. I know it has 127hp. but I never have enough room to go above 115. so what is the top speed of it? or just a round guess of it? i have non-stock tires. I have tiger paw touring tires. about to get ready to get new rims and either toyo, or Nexen or falken. depends on the money i have in pocket

A: I once drove on a stretch down in rural somewhere midwest, and got my 2002 civic up to 123. It was a really long (4-5 miles) of straight-slight downhill road that was premo for going quick. I have normal tires on my car, and you could feel that I was at the limit. I know the 04 has basically the same engine and aero work as the 02, so I am guessing that is your answer. Take it to a local race track and see what you can do to it. There are places around where I live where you pay for a couple hours of use and just let your car loose. have fun!
