Q: I have a 2003 Honda Civic DX. Whenever I release my brake I hear a knocking noise. What is this?
This sound comes to our ears when I am stopped somewhere between a slope, and When I release my brakes to keep going I hear this clicking/knocking noise? What should i do? Is this a major problem or minor? Is it dangerous?
A: The noise is common to most Hondas and has to do with the shift of the brake pads in the calipers because of the clearance between the brake pads and the caliper body. Typically this noise is heard when you reverse directions, such as backing out of a driveway and then starting to move forward but a slope will cause the same type of noise to occur.
on some models, such as the CR-V, Element and Odyssey, Honda came out with a spacer or shim to reduce the noise a bit on those vehicles but they have not come out with anything on the other models. Given that your Civic is a previous generation it would be highly unlikely that they would ever come out with a 'fix' for what is a 'normal' noise.
I would recommend you have the brakes checked during the next regular service as the noise can be exacerbated by brake pads that are worn and your's may be to a point where they will require replacement in the near future. As always, if you think it might be dangerous, have a technician check it out for safety's sake. If they don't find any unusual wear then the noise would be attributed to the normal condition for that car.
hope that answers your question
Q: Where can I find the door shell for a Honda Civic DX 2003 Driver side? ?
Maybe an internet site or an auto parts store that will mail items to anywhere in the United States.
A: local junk yards, ebay, craigslist.org or your local paper
Q: how many gallon tank is a 2003 honda civic dx the dealer and the manual does not say, customer servise dont no?
A: All Civics, sedan and coupe, for that year have a tank that will hold 13.2 gallons.
Q: What is the factory top speed of a 2003 Honda Civic DX 1.7L 5-Speed?
A: Crypt, the question says "2003", not "93", which does come with a 1.7L engine. Read before you try to make someone else feel dumb. To answer your question, the 1.7L non v-tech, 115hp, motor is governed at 110 mph. You can top out in 4th gear, if you remove the governer, you've got the range of all of 5th gear which should get you to at least 130-140mph. That is a guess since I have not removed my governer either.
Q: how to replace lock cylinder in 2003 honda civic dx? Help please!?
My key will go into the lock but will not turn to open the lock how do i take it out? How do i get the door panel off?
A: The panel is fairly straightforward to remove. Roll the window all the way down. Remove the bezel around the door handle (there may be concealing caps over the screw heads - they just pry out gently). Remove the pull handle and the control panel (the screws may have more concealing caps). Starting near the bottom, slip a table knife between the panel and the metal door and slide it around until it comes to a stop against a retaining clip. Twist and pry to pop the clip loose - when twisting, twist outward with the edge of the blade that is against the clip so it does not stress the panel. Continue until all the clips are popped loose, then lift the panel upward to unhook the top. From there things should be fairly obvious. The plastic vapor barrier has to be gently peeled back and pressed back down when you are done.

Q: What does my 2003 Civic need to keep it running strong?
I have a 2003 Honda Civic DX 5 speed with 94,000 miles. Not very much else has been done besides regular oil changes, air and cabin filters, and Tein coilovers installed. It still runs like a champ and gets 33mpg easy. Now that it's getting older and of higher mileage, what can be done to keep it running good and reliably?
A: basic tune up....e/i. sparkplugs, cap and rotor, plug wires, and also replace the belt and water pump as they suggested....but while your doing that also have them re adjust the valve lashes...and grease the places thats needed....

Q: Where should I go to have my transmission fluid replaced?
I have a 2003 Honda Civic DX manual transmission with 96k miles approaching 100k fast. The transmission fluid has never been changed and I would like to have that done. Where is a good place to have this done? I live in the Orlando, Fl area if it makes a difference.
A: Any mechanic should be able to do it. Shop around though, you will get a better deal.
Q: Which car is the best pick?
I've been looking at cars, and I am torn between the following:
2003 Hyundai Elantra
2002 MINI Cooper
2003 Honda Civic DX
Overall, which do you think is the best? What are the pros and cons for each make? Which would be better on gas, safer, and is all around just a good vechile?
All advice is welcome, as well as your opinions. Thank you for your time.
A: Not a lot of options with the Civic DX...Honda is'nt getting a good rating now days...not as reliable as the classics.
The MINI is very small and sporty...just not enough room...
I would go with the Elantra...Hyundai is now living it's name up. Maintenance and repairs are going to be a lot cheaper...The Elantra's are very nice reliable cars.
Q: How much will it cost to repair my driver's side mirror?
I have a 2003 two-door Honda Civic DX, and yesterday someone pulled a hit and run, leaving me with a broken driver's side mirror. My insurance deductible is $500, which I don't have right now, and I can't drive for long with a broken mirror. How much will it cost to repair it outside of insurance?
A: I would not go through insurance as 500 dollars is a lot more than replacing a mirror will cost. I would first check ebay and see how much they are retailing for as it should be no more than 70 bucks for one side mirror. If worse comes to worse check junk yards around you or on the civic forums as they sometimes have parts for cheap.
Q: Shocks / Struts... What's the difference?
I have a 2003 Honda Civic Dx 2 door coupe. (That's a 1.7)
I have Koni "shocks" (or so I think).
http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/suspension.jsp?&make=Koni&model=Sport+Cartridge&group=Sport&autoMake=Honda&autoModel=Civic+DX+Coupe&autoYear=2003&autoModClar=&partNum=8641-1416SPORT&perfCode=S
^(these are the ones)
Are these "shocks" or "struts"?
This is a picture of my suspension.

The last picture is a picture of my suspension. It's passenger's rear and I have neuspeed springs and koni shocks. BUT this performance shop was saying I have struts, so i wanted to know if that was true or not.
A: Doug B is the most correct. your picture is of a coil over shock, looks to be the left rear. the front of the car is most likely strut. Great picture BTW. that helped out alot.
